B r e a th • Be • Earth

We return back to earth

To air • spirit

Breath comes and goes.

Unpredictable,

Impermanent

A flash before our eyes

Every breath I take becomes smoke

Signals that breach a moment of stillness

And silence in solitude

In the winter dark nights

of the Rocky Mountains

The original lands of the Ute and Arapaho

Candlelit

Breath into smoke-like clouds

Air into steam

The impermanence of breath

Within

That comes closer to my soul

The silence and darkness of my heart

And the need of words to describe each breath I take which I can sense with the cold.

Closer to my heartbeat

That pulses with each breath I take

Each moment, each serene pulse.

A musical note with no base

No sound

Just feeling into the darkest night of the soul

The soil within these mountains that have felt so much

Grief and gratitude

Monumental shifts and awareness

Of subtle life in the stillness of nature

Making its mark

Pausing with each step

Creating a musical piece within the connection of my mind to my soul

My heart to my body

My breath to my beat

These words that come out without further explanation of what has come before

Making a pathway to what is

With no sense of tomorrow

Yet I pause

To witness the breathtaking a leap into smoke as a way to signal life

beyond time

And time beyond stillness

Playfulness

Fire, warmth in the cold dark winter nights in these Rocky Mountains.

There’s no explanation

Yet a need to surrender to what is

Without going inward to what was

Letting go of what needs to be

And become what will be.

There is no linear time of a past

Without surrendering to the now

Yet we bow to existence

And the life that wants to breathe

With and without me

In its simplicity beyond utter compliance

Of an explanation

Piecing together a puzzle of words

That is flowing through these hands as an extension of this heart

That knows nothing beyond what is

In this moment's time.
